ABOUT THE VENUE

Where is Algiers?
Algiers is the capital city of Algeria and is located on the west side of the Mediterranean Sea in the north-central portion of Algeria. The modern part of the city is built on the level ground by the seashore and the old part climbs behind the modern town, capped by the casbah at the pinnacle. For further, local information about Algiers, please click here.

Do I need a Visa to attend the event?
If you are travelling to The Summit from outside of Algiers, it is likely you will require a visa (for further infomation click here). Please note international visa assistance is no longer available.

How to I travel into Algeria?
Houari Boumediene Airport (ALG) is located 20 km (12 miles) southeast of Algiers and is approx. one hours drive from the CIC. The airport provides most modern amenities including duty free, restaurants and currency exchange. Please do ensure you leave plenty of time to travel through traffic and clear security.

Do you have recommended places to stay whilst I’m in Algiers for the Summit?

What is the currency in Algiers?
The local currency is the Algerian Dinar (DZD), please click here to check your local rates. The use of ATMs and credit cards is confined to a limited number of hotels and other businesses in the larger cities. Only exchange money at bureaux de change in the international airports and larger hotels, or at banks in the main cities. We strongly recommend you do not change money on the streets. Please note Algeria has strict foreign exchange laws and the Dinar can’t be exported.
 

What will the weather be like in Algiers in June?
The temperature in Algiers throughout June is hot and pleasant, averaging at around 22°C/71°F during then day, dipping to around 18°C/67°F at night. Rainfall is low and unexpected.

The Smart Cities Global Technology & Investment Summit will take place at Centre International de Conférences d’Alger (or the CIC) on Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 June 2018. The address for the venue is as follows:

How do I get to the venue from the airport?
Bus: ETUSA bus services operate between the city and airport roughly every 30 minutes between 06:00 and 19:00. They can be found just outside the arrival terminal in Terminals 1 and 2

Car Rental: Rental car companies, such as Avis, Budget, Cevicar, Dollar, Hertz, Rapide Car can be found at the airport, with offices at the International Terminal parking area

Taxis: Taxis are available outside the terminal in both Terminals 1 and 2. Please note that in heavy traffic, a journey into Algiers can takes up to 50 minutes. Additionally, many Algerian taxis have no taximeter, so be sure to set your fare before departing

Shuttle Buses: GO Airport Shuttle and SuperShuttle are two providers and offer both group and private transportation options. They typically have bilingual drivers who often can speak English as well as French and Arabic

Metro: The Algiers Metro provides a direct link between the airport and the city

How do I gain entrance to the Summit?
Ahead of the Summit you will receive an email with a barcode which will be used to print your badge. Please ensure you bring your email with your barcode printed out or saved to your phone, in order for us to retrieve your badge quickly and efficiently. You will also need to bring your passport to the venue with you in order to gain entrance and collect your badge. Once you have your badge please ensure you wear it at all times for security and scanning purposes.


Can I park at the location of the Summit, The CIC? 
The CIC offers up to 2,100 parking spaces onsite.

How do I register my attendance on arrival at The Global Smart City Summit?
Please ensure you have your print out or have saved to your phone the email containing your barcode which you will have received, to ensure we can print your badge onsite. Hostesses will be available at registration to assist you in obtaining your badge. Once you have your badge please ensure you wear it at all times for security and scanning purposes.
 


How do I visit all the different events within The Global Smart City Summit?
Please note, there will be scanning points on entry into all keynotes, breakouts, catering and the exhibition. Please have your badge ready for scanning when entering the rooms.
 


How do I travel around the event?
Shuttles will be provided between the following hotels and the venue on the days of the event. Further information surrounding this will be displayed in the lobby of the below hotels.

DETAILS ABOUT THE EVENT


Do you have an up-to-date agenda that I can read?
An up to date agenda will be available on the website for reference. A downloadable PDF of the agenda will also be made available on the website for you to print in advance if you wish.

Is there a dress code for the Summit?
The dress code for the event is smart, business casual. There will be air-con throughout the venue however the temperature in Algiers in June is an average of 22°C/71°F so please dress appropriately. We advise women to avoid tight tops and shorts, skirts and dresses that sit above the knee. Always carry an item of clothing with you to cover your shoulders and arms should you be required to when out in public spaces. 

Is the event catered?
Yes it is. Please make sure you let us know of any dietary requirements you may have in advance of the Summit. We will endeavour to ensure all catering points are labelled for your convenience.

Could you provide more information about the Gala dinner?
On the evening of Wednesday 27 June there will be a gala dinner held at the CIC after the Summit has finished. This is for red badge holders only. Networking will begin at 18:00 with dinner and entertainment starting at 18:45, finishing at 22:00. A table plan will be created so you will know which table you are allocated to. The dress code will be smart casual, no jeans. Please note no alcohol will be served throughout the evening.

I will be working from the event, what plug sockets do I need to bring with me?
Algiers uses the standard two pin Euro plug sockets. If you are travelling from a country that does not use this then you will need to bring an adaptor with you. We strongly suggest providing your own, as hotels will have a very limited stock.

Is there a hashtag I can use whilst at the event?
We encourage all attendees to use social media and post about their experience at Smart Cities Global Technology & Investment Summit. The hashtag for the event is #smartcitysummitalgiers

Can I get a refund on my ticket?
All ticket sales are non-refundable. We will be unable to refund your ticket price if you do not attend on the days of the Summit.

What language is the event communicated in and what translations are available?
There will be simultaneous translation into French available at the venue for those who do not speak English. Headsets will be provided at entry into certain rooms. The Summit Guide will also be translated into French.

How do I book a place on a VIP city tour?
We will be offering city tours of Algiers in the evenings of the conference and on the morning after the conference has finished. In your registration you may have indicated which slot is of most interest to you. Further information will be released shortly, however please meet for your allocated tour at the front entrance 15 minutes before the start time in order to load quickly and efficiently.
