Speaker Profile

Dr. Mitchell Kosny is Director (Interim) of the Ryerson University School of Urban and Regional Planning in Toronto.  He has an active career outside the classroom in strategic planning, governance and engagement and has played a leadership role in international local government capacity-building projects on behalf of the Canadian government in South Africa, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and China.   On the domestic front, he has been Chair of many organizations including the Toronto Community Housing Corporation which is Canada's largest social housing provider housing some 165,000 residents across the City.  The Corporation is in the midst of implementing Canada's largest housing plan...a $6 Billion (CDN) revitalization of the Regent Park community in central Toronto.  During the past few years, Dr. Kosny has been a regular speaker on governance and leadership at SmartCity-related events in Prague, Krakow, Barcelona and here in Algiers.   He is a actively engaged with the political scene in Toronto and the Province of Ontario and is a regular media commentator on local government and city planning issues.
