Speaker Profile

Malik Faraoun is currently the Deputy Head of the World Economic Forum’s Middle and North Africa Department. Malik Faraoun spearheads the development of strategic initiatives with businesses and governments revolving around infrastructure, policy reforms and geopolitics. He is also in charge of the overall strategy, consultations with heads of governments and cabinet members, as well as programme and content development.  

Prior to joining the World Economic Forum, Malik was a Principal Investment Officer in Infrastructure Finance within the African Development Bank’s (AfDB) Private Sector Department. Malik has developed an extensive experience in originating, structuring, and executing infrastructure projects and public-private partnerships. As a member of the AfDB’s Private Sector Department, Malik’s experience covered a multitude of private sector areas, with a particular focus on the transport and power sectors. Since joining the AfDB in 2007, Malik has closed over USD 1.5 billion financing using multiple financing instruments which has facilitated around USD 13 billion of project total costs. Given his excellent track-record, Mr Faraoun was selected to be a founding member of Africa50, AfDB’s landmark initiative for infrastructure delivery. This new pan African financial institution provides a set of innovative solutions to tackle Africa’s infrastructure deficit and aims to mobilize capital from non-traditional sources.  

Before joining the AfDB, Mr. Faraoun had worked for the International Finance Corporation (IFC) essentially in its advisory services in the Middle East and North Africa Region. Prior to that, he had worked in private banking and consulting services.  

Malik Faraoun is a World Economic Forum’s Global Leadership Fellow and holds an MBA from EDHEC (France) and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Ecole Supérieure de Commerce (Algeria). He is fluent in Arabic, French and English.
