Speaker Profile

Since 2012, the physicist Joachim Schonowski has been working in T-Labs on the subject of the digital community / city of tomorrow (Smart City). He has anchored the topic within DT group.  

Joachim Schonowski works in various committees, e.g. IT Summit, European Innovation Program SCC, Smart Country and co-chairs the DIN Smart City Standards Forum. He combines the different perspectives of other experts and municipalities on the ecosystem of digital city / municipality into his practical work and is co-author of various papers or books.  

His heterogeneous team of developers, designers, students of politics or urban planning is currently developing a oneM2M standard based Smart City ecosystem testbed. Based on this Smart City Lab, TLabs forms a Smart City Innovation Alliance with various partners.  


He leads Deutsche Telekom activities in one of 10 EU H2020 Smart City lighthouse projects:  "mySMARTLife" as project partner of the city of Hamburg. Scientific curiosity and the enjoyment of new challenges drive him further investigating the digital community of tomorrow. He is interested to examine innovative topics of the information and communication world, develop prototypes and seek the discourse with other experts at conferences such as Habitat III.
